Why did you wake up this morning?
Did you have to, or did you want to?
I remember countless Monday mornings waking up to the responsibility of leading and directing learning for a whole classroom of students. I can’t say I always wanted to, but I always needed to.
The fact that I needed to go to work to help finance the life I wanted to live, meant that my wants formed my needs.
So wants are pretty important. And behind our wants are a series of whys. The very reasons why we get up in the morning.
Are you clear on why you wake up each day? From my experience over the past few years holding conversations with people from different sectors in the workforce, not many are very clear at all about the type of life they are trying to create. And because that is fuzzy, their motivation to run out the door with some level of excitement is sadly missing.
One of my primary interests in life these days is to help people get crystal clear about the whys that bring fulfillment to their work, and satisfaction to their overall life. Without that, not even the best coffee will get us going, and more importantly, keep us going.
